Blue Belles are New Faces of the WI – Waitrose Magazine Feature

If you happen to flip through the pages of the latest edition of the delectable Waitrose Kitchen Magazine, be sure to keep your perfectly plumped eyelashes peeled to spot Cambridge Blue Belles members amongst its pages!

In December, we welcomed the much-given-kudos journalist, Zoe Williams, to our Home Front Christmas party to take some snaps of us all in our best forties frocks and ask questions related to the feature, The New Face of the WI – which presses together photos and stories of our fore sisters alongside those of today to bring attention to the glorious resurgence being enjoyed by WIs up and down the country.

Top left, Cambridge Blue Belles showcasing our rationed bakes and learning the importance of digging for victory!

As you’ll see by the photos above, we were delighted to be asked to contribute to the piece and celebrate the WI movement, one Belle at a time!

‘One thing the WI is empathetically not is a live-action version of the Great British Bake Off. We’re not competitive. The main thing about this organisation is a friendship and community; it’s very inclusive. Also, we have a lot of people who cycle here. So we’re used to bits of icing falling off the cakes’, says Laura P in the article’s body, before going on to contribute a simply divine recipe for rhubarb and orange blossom jam!
