Embrace lace!

It was a fine night in Cambridge as we gathered for our May meeting.

It was great to see all the Belles again. We each had the chance to suggest two ideas for meeting topics over the next twelve months. The choices were varied but the most popular included crochet, museum visit, wine tasting and a talk from Breckland Orchard owner, Claire Martinsen, on running a small business.

Looking forward to having fun with our Belles at the monthly meetings and also at our social events being planned be our social secretary, Zoe Brown. Cambridge events such as Strawberry Fair and the Cambridge Shakespeare Festival as well as cinema outings are all to come!

Our president, Joanne, welcomes the group

We were also fortunate to have a talk by the lovely Fran on lace-making. Fran is clearly passionate about the craft and enjoys everything about the process. She talked about the history of lace-making and gave us lots of useful info including the types of bobbins to buy if you’re a starter and the best natural thread to use. We also had a go and checked out Fran’s beautiful beaded bobbins – the favourite being the one with a mini hand clasping the beads. Thanks so much Fran!

Who knew there were bobbins out there worth £300?! We’re off to scour antique fairs!

Until next time…
