Celebrating Empowerment With Self Defence & Photoshoots!

To celebrate Women’s History Month, the Belles met under the banner of all things empowerment this month.

After an update from the Committee across all things business related including news that we have been awarded extra land for our allotment (that means more cash towards Denman bursaries as a result of being able to produce more to sell as a part of our Dig for Denman campaign), mention of all the great happenings hosted by Federation in the coming months and the formation of our very own craft club!

We also congratulated Belles Kelly and Jo who won the CFWI Denman Bursary – both will attend our beloved college for a one day course in sewing for beginners – we look forward to hearing all about it in show and tell in April!

Secretary Laura P Sold a lovely array of her LauraLaura accessories as the Belles Buy & Share Stall Debuted

This meeting also hosted our very first Belles Buy & Share Stall where one of our members brings their wares for others to purchase with a small amount of the end sums coming back to the group. Our very own secretary and rhubarb enthusiast, Laura P, fashioned her divine goods to the delight of all in audience! Check out her website lauralaura.net for even more beautiful bits and bobs to invest your pennies wisely into! (Some of which have even graced the pages of Grazia, don’t you know!).

Instructor Col Maggs shows Belles how to show attackers whose boss!

Following a refreshment of fresh cream cakes and parsnip chips (compliments of the allotment), Belles were introduced to Col Maggs of Cambridge Kung Fu who came forward to teach us some practical self defence. We were keen to learn that the number one ingredient to warn off potential attackers is confidence – if you are growling like a lion in your stance, no one will ever dare come near your pride!

Hands on with Holly & Laura P as they learn the value of body awareness in protection!

Above all, Victoria & Katie show their smiles through the full on training regime.

As always, the Belles enjoyed participating in our raffle and a few Belles posed for the WI Can Do It! Photoshoot, too – watch this space for the belltastically beautiful results!

Mel braves the pace, despite her wrist injury and Michelle embraces the challenge!
