It’s safe to say that the Belles were all looking forward to hearing the speaker at our October meeting, who would be talking about all things chocolate!
Richard from Mood Foods, a Cambridge-based raw chocolate company, gave a fascinating talk about how his passion for raw chocolate led him to start his own business.

The Ombar range of chocolate, which was created in Richard’s own kitchen, is vegan and gluten free. Unlike most brands of chocolate, the production of raw chocolate does not involve roasting the cocoa beans. Richard explained that rather than adding milk, refined sugar and vegetable fat, the main ingredients found in Ombar chocolate are cocoa nibs, coconut sugar and cocoa butter. This means that raw chocolate is much healthier than normal chocolate – good news for the chocoholics among us!

During Richard’s talk we all got to sample some delicious raw chocolate, and a few of the Belles were brave enough to try cocoa nibs in their natural state (an acquired taste!). The Belles had lots of questions for Richard and we had the opportunity to buy some Ombar chocolate, which sold out in no time.

Early in 2013 the WI launched their SOS for High Street campaign, calling on all WI members to support their local shops and high street.
Our secretary, Laura, talked to the Belles about the campaign and discussed the ways we can show our support. During the meeting each Belle was given a ‘pledge’ card and asked to name their favourite independent shop in Cambridge and make a shopping pledge. The cards were then displayed at the meeting, with many of the Belles picking up shopping tips and recommendations.
More information on the SOS for High Street campaign coming soon…
