A Belle’s Weekend Out – Denman New Wave Weekend

Twelve glorious Cambridge Blue Belles spent the last weekend attending the WI’s very own, Denman College taking part in the New Wave Weekend – a few days of mini workshops designed to whet your learning whistle. This week, we aim to report back with photos and words galore from some of the Belles who were in attendance. As ever, Denman pulled out all of the stops and each attendee was overwhelmed with fantastic tuition from passionate tutors, bang for your buck bread and butter pudding, shortbread and tea breaks until you were swimming – all set in the beautiful grounds of our Georgian campus.

First in our chapter is Alex Elbro, who attended the How to Make a Christmas Fascinator Course with milliner Louise Brooks (check out her website, Hatsfromthehall), Festive Cupcakes Decoration with baker and maker of all things gorgeous, Natalie Green, and Beaded Christmas Decorations with Sally Boheme.

Alex shows off her freshly crafted fascinator outside the teaching building at Denman

I have had a really wonderful weekend and feel exhausted ( in a good way) but also revived on the run up to Christmas. Everything about Denman was good, perhaps excepting the entertainment on Saturday night, but even that got us up dancing and laughing!! The food was really good and so much of it! Homemade shortbread and cakes too! Maybe I should have done the dance workshop!
The workshops were amazing: who would have thought I could create a ‘fabulous fascinator’ or decorate cupcakes like a professional (well, nearly!).

Alex’s delightful festive cupcakes!

We had such fun in a very relaxed atmosphere and chatter to many other ladies from all over the country too. I am now looking at weekend courses for next year! SUCH FUN!!!!!

Alex’s fascinator, up close, pretty and personal!
