A Christmas Wartime Extravaganza!

The Blue Belles Home Front Chrismas party was a delight of 1940s fun.

The Friends Meeting House was transformed into a wartime dance hall thanks to Tansy and Mel of  The Old Chemist Shop Antique Centre on Mill Road. With fantastic wartime posters, 1940s clothing and patriotic bunting, we were treated to an authentic Home Front Christmas.
Belles arrived ready to party in 1940s dress with victory rolls in place! Hoc and Mark from C&BLE (Cambs and Beds Lindy Experience) introduced the evening with a talk on wartime life from ration cards to make do and mend along with an overview of a 1940s Christmas. We even primed our vocal cords for a verse or two of White Christmas!
A selection of Belles kindly treated us to some festive 1940s treats from eggless cake to spam sausage rolls – it was great to sample their wares. And our 1940s quiz winners were announced.

We then had the chance to learn a fab Lindy Hop dance routine before seeing a performance by the experts – we’ve got a lot to learn but it was so much fun! Finally, we learnt the Lambeth Walk and Knees Up Mother Brown. Thanks to Mark for the opportunity to hear an original recording of the classic East End tune!

We all hugely enjoyed the night and it was a great opportunity to get to know each other better.  We were so pleased to welcome Waitrose Kitchen magazine on the night – keep an eye out on the March edition for the coverage!

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Look forward to seeing you in 2014 with an exciting new events programme.
